Would it be cheeky of me to ask if anyone's got guitar tabs for any of Don's songs? I'm particularly looking for Paradise.

Thanks for the welcomes, Sally and Coonie. I'll certainly look into the Richie Havens DVD.
And also, let's see if I can test your Don knowledge a little further. My girlfriend's convinced she's heard a Suzanne Vega version of 'New York City' but I think that's nonsense! My only experience of SV though, is the few singles she had out a few years ago, 'Small Blue Thing', 'Luka' and 'Marlene on the wall'.
BTW - I was at the Macclesfield gig on 20th Feb and was absolutely blown away. It's not often you get that amount of talent in your local! It was my introduction to Don, and hopefully will be the first of many of his gigs.
Cheers

Ah that's so great to hear Craig! No doubt you'll know that John & Louise in Macclesfield are big fans. I first met them when Don was playing on the Isle of Arran and they were blown away too! Really lovely, lovely people! (totally nuts, of course!)
Nah, we've never heard anything about SV singing Don's songs but "New York City's Not My Home" would be pretty unlikely anyway. Just googled Suzanne Vega and she's from New York city!
Google says she sang one called "New York is a Woman".. maybe that's what your g/f is thinking of.
Nice to have you join our little corner of cyberspace! What other music are you into?

Hi C
Well, it wasn't until that night in the Railway that I realised John and Louise's connection. In fact, I think it was them who managed to arrange the gig, after seeing Don on Arran. I almost didn't go to the Railway (new baby only 5 weeks old at the time - although he's become a regular in that pub since). Louise was delighted when I bought a copy of the album, mind.
Yeah, I was convinced the SV thing was rubbish, all my research said so. It does make me think I'll probably hunt out whatever it was that sounds like 'New York'.
As for other music, well, is it a cop-out to say a real mixture? I'm going through a "reminiscing" phase at the moment, so have recently re-purchased Blancmange, Talk Talk, Ultravox and a bunch of others of that type. My current fave CD is by Whitest Boy Alive, similar to The Magic Numbers and from Norway! Also dug out my old Cocteau Twins CDs recently, and my Stone Roses CD is never far away. And, seeing as I'm in Macc, my Joy Division CDs have just been resurrected in light of the 28th Anniversary of Ian Curtis's death. And Puressence have remained my absolute faves for the last few years. Does that give you plenty to go on?! |

Maybe this is a job for Don himself? : |
